Straight Talk LG L86g Optimus Review

The Straight Talk LG L86g is another introduction into the redesigned Optimus line. As with the other new Optimus phones, the LG 86g retains the square design, so gone are the oval iPhone like corners and design. Now you may be thinking what’s so special about the L86g over say the Optimus Logic? Good question, the answer is much better hardware and overall user experience.

The LG L86g is an excellent looking phone. It has a very distinct rectangular shape that uses very square corners. The body is all plastic construction and has a nice silver trim around the screen. Note, this is silver painted plastic not metal. Like the other phones in the new Optimus line, this one also has the 3 Android button bank below the screen as opposed to the typical 4. The left and right buttons are capacitive touch while the center home button is of the physical bush button type. Overall, this is an excellent looking phone that’s very distinct from all the other iPhone wanna bes.

The LG l86g brings us a much improved and powerful 1ghz processor compared to the 800 mhz processor on the LG Logic. Additionally, you get a larger 4.0″ screen with higher resolution. Also on the improved hardware front is the digital camera which comes with 5.0 megapixels. Additionally, the LG L86g offers dual camera (front and rear) as well as Autofocus and LED flash on the main rear camera. Of course, as with all modern phones, you get WiFi connectivity as well.

The LG L86g comes with Android Gingerbread 2.3 which is not the latest but 1 version back. As with all other Straight Talk smartphones, the phone is not handicapped in any way so you have access to all the Android features including the Google Play store, Google Maps, Navigation, Youtube/Streaming Video and more. You can download apps just as you would with a Contract phone, so no worries there. You will need a Google account of course.

The LG L86g is an excellent phone. Perfect for those who don’t necessarily need or want the expense of a high end phone but want something more than a basic Android. This one has plenty of power to get most things done, including streaming videos. The design is really eye catching which I really enjoy. If your budget allows, I really recommend this one!
